Fishing and Species

The fishing is a combo of wading and fishing out of a boat. Giant Trevally are the attraction for many, but the broad range of species and their accessibility are the real attraction of this remote location. Other species are Bonefish, Permit, Barracuda, Milkfish, Bluefin Trevally, Triggerfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish and Marlin.

Arrivals and Departures

There is one charter flight per week on Monday, from Mahe to Astove. There is no flexibility for shorter or longer trips.

Accomodations

There are 6 single occupancy rooms for the 6 guests, each with an en-suite bath and A/C. In addition there is a main lodge for dining and hanging out.

Astove is for anglers only.

Airport / Logistics

Astove Atoll is situated 570 nautical miles SW of Mahe. Guests are expected to arrive in Mahe, Seychelles the day before the trip on Sunday and will meet at the domestic terminal a hour before the scheduled departure. The flight from Mahe to Astove is 2 hours 30 min. All flights onboard a Beechcraft 1900. The schedule is depart Mahe at 8:30 AM, arrive Astove 12:00 . On the return depart Astove at 12:30 PM, arriving Mahe at 4:00 PM.

Climate

Astove is 10 degrees south of the equator. The temperature is typically from the high 70's to the high 80's.

7 nights single accommodations, 6 days guided fishing, all meals with non alcoholic beverages.

Not Included

Fly fishing gear and flies, alcoholic beverages, gratuities for guides and staff and $210 Conservation Fee. Also not included is the mandatory Medical evacuation insurance.

The accepts US dollars and Euros. The lodge accepts credit cards with a fee.

Gratuities

Bring only cash for gratuities. Guide tipping per angler is suggested at $110 per day/ $660 per week. The staff tip is suggested at $250 + per week per angler.

Medical Facilities

The nearest medical facility is in Mahe 570 miles away. For US quality of care you will want to fly to another country. Medevac insurance such as Global Rescue is mandatory.

Seychelles

A stones throw away from Cosmoledo lies the small but ultimate saltwater flats destination called Astove Atoll. Its shallow lagoon with one small entrance that is surrounded by sheer drop-offs teeming with fish, makes it the best and wildest fly fishing destination. Not only does Astove have lots of big GT’s but also Bonefish, Permit, Barracuda, Milkfish, Bluefin Trevally, Triggerfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish and Marlin. The daily drama of a pristine dynamic ecosystem play out in front of your eyes, a rare opportunity to gaze into a world, which has changed very little since it was discovered by anglers. The difficult anchorage due to a sheer wall that drops off to over a 1000 meters with in a few hundred meters from shore has meant that past visits have been limited. There is a 6 week season in October-November and an 8 week season February-April. The group will spend 7 nights in the lodge and have 6 and a half full days fly fishing and exploring this remote atoll. Teams will comprise of 2 anglers and 1 guide fishing either from a skiff or on foot depending on the chosen fishing area and tide. The accommodation is rustic but comfortable, comprising of 6 en-suite single occupancy bedrooms.
