Fishing and Species
Deschutes redsides are an all wild and native fish. Their diet consists primarily of insects. Consequently they come in a compact size averaging 14 girthy inches with larger fish common. A nine foot five weight fly rod equipped with a full floating line is all that is required to fish for trout. Dry fly fishing is the preferred technique, although nymphing the many riffles of the Deschutes can be productive if the trout aren’t rising.
Deschutes River trout floats

Oregon’s Lower Deschutes River is one of the West’s most dynamic fisheries, hosting both a dense population of resident and native “redside” trout and a summer and fall run of steelhead. These floating and camping trips are on the section of river below Warm Springs and down to just above Maupin.
Each day you will float and fish a new stretch of the Deschutes. Anglers fish two per drift boat and guide. Fishing from the boat is prohibited, so all fishing is done by wading.
After fishing you will arrive to a fully prepared riverside camp. Meals and camping equipment are provided. River Runner serves simple but tasty riverside cuisine that will nourish and satisfy.
