Tiamo Resort

Bahamas >> Andros Island >> South Andros
Fishing and Species
Andros is known for amazing bonefishing with a vast amount of habitat. The fishing ranges from a maze of creeks, the South Bight and interior flats to the seemingly infinite flats of the west side and south end. There are large fish and there can be good numbers as well. Fishing is a mix of wading and fishing from the boat. The guides will try to accommodate personal preferences, depending on location and tide.
South Andros, Bahamas

The stellar bonefishing of Andros has been known for at least the last 40 years. The wild and vast waters from the South Bight down to the Water Cays made the to-do list for bonefishermen a little later. Tiamo is the place to stay when you want to fish these waters in the company of a friend or spouse, and more than a spartan bonefish lodge is called for. Tiamo is special in many ways: the location, accommodations, cuisine, the people and the fishing. They have three great guides and I have fished with two of them. They really know their stuff and have fast skiffs to cover the near and far waters they fish.
This private island is an idyllic tropical paradise, unchanged in fifty years and home to a colorful kaleidoscope of exotic sea creatures and rare wildlife. The pristine green island is dotted with quaint townships and water flats set in a virgin wilderness. This intimate, award-winning, eco resort makes the ideal base from which to explore the wild sheltered beauty and teeming waters from the South Bight to the south.

Set among tropical palm groves right on the white seashore, many of the cottages are cooled by sea breezes and powered by the sun. Ecological principles underpin everything they do at the resort, to ensure minimal disruption to the natural world with forward-thinking, ingenious use of natural resources. All ten cottages are built from sustainable pine and raised on stilts with wraparound verandahs to maximize natural ventilation and cooling. The thatch used on the roofs provides great natural insulation, moderating temperatures. Cottages are screened for shade and privacy by mature trees and lush tropical vegetation. Almost all the energy used at Tiamo is generated on site by solar panels. A combination of reclaimed glass and driftwood are used throughout the resort. The resort's plentiful hot water is heated by direct sunlight.

In their organic garden they grow fresh fruit, vegetables and salads for the resort. The food is really something to look forward to. A cool drink from the well stocked bar is a friendly welcome back after a long day on the flats. Tiamo has that unique charm that defies description.
