Fishing and Species
This is world class fishing for Rainbows and Brown Trout. Most all fishing is done by walk and wade and sight casting with a dry fly or nymph. In addition, there can be streamer fishing at the inlet or outlet of lakes.
New Zealand

Tongariro Fishing Lodge is situated in park-like grounds on the banks of the Tongariro River, close to the southern shores of Lake Taupo. Established in 1982, the Lodge has an excellent reputation for gourmet dining, the finest accommodations and the best of New Zealand’s fly fishing guides. The Lodge offers old-fashioned comfort and style combined with friendly, personal service.

The extraordinary trout fishing is the reason that most guests visit the lodge. They always have experienced guides that really know their fishing and the waters. There are a number of streams and lakes in the area that you can drive and walk to, in addition to the heli fly-out fishing. What ever you may have heard, the fishing really is that good and worth doing. Sight casting to huge trout with dries, nymphs or streamers is why you fly for twelve hours.

Tongariro Lodge has developed an international reputation for fine food and wine. The Lodge specializes in serving the best of New Zealand game and traditional foods. The warm atmosphere of the Lodge is best experienced in front of an open fire over a four-course dinner as the day's adventures are recounted, and stories get taller as the evening wears on.

Nestled on 22 acres of secluded grounds with mature gardens and trees, the lodge is so close to its namesake river that you can walk down and cast into it. A spa and an all weather tennis court are also on the grounds. A choice of private luxury accommodations is available in one bedroom chalets or two to five bedroom villas, all with private facilities and views of the Tongariro River or mountains beyond.

The Lodge's staff has an excellent reputation for being friendly and attentive. The staff excels at organizing outdoor activities and the very best of guides. Guests leave as friends on a first name basis.
