Deschutes Steelhead Float Trip

United States >> Oregon >> Deschutes River
Fishing and Species
Deschutes River steelhead run July through November. In addition to its own runs of both hatchery and native steelhead, the Deschutes also attracts stray steelhead heading up the Columbia destined for other waters. Steelhead caught in the Deschutes tend to average five or six pounds, but may range from 20 inches to 20 lbs. You will be swinging flies with 11 to 13 foot spey rods. Most fishing is done with full floating lines and surface or near surface presentations. Plan on fishing hard early and late during productive low light sessions, and taking a midday break during long summer days. As the river cools below 50 degrees the use of Skagit heads and sink tips is practical.
River Runner Outfitters

From July through November the lower 23 miles of the Deschutes River from Mack’s Canyon to the mouth.
The summer air in the Deschutes Canyon is warm and dry, making a jet boat camping trip with River Runner Outfitters an enticing proposition. Camping equipment and meals are provided. Good fishing and good food go hand in hand on these trips.
This 3 night, 4 day trip begins at the Mack’s Canyon boat launch at sunrise, where anglers will float 2 per guide and wade and fish.
