Why does Alaska West operate a fixed-base tent lodge, on the Kanectok River, where no one can build a permanent lodge? THE FISHING. All five species of salmon, beautiful rainbows, dollies, char and grayling are the reasons to fish here. Alaska West is located in the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge in western Alaska, five miles upriver from the Alaska Native village of Quinhagak.

The facility is a “tent lodge.” It is made up of a combination of permanent and semi-permanent structures, and is designed to offer comfortable living, eating and lounging areas. The dining tent gives you plenty of room to spread out, relax and enjoy the gourmet Alaska cuisine. If you’re looking for white linen tablecloths, you should look elsewhere. If you’re looking for a very comfortable place to spend the week fishing, relaxing and enjoying a little corner of Alaska, you’ve come to the right place.

Dining Tent
The dining tent is a spacious 24?x 60? heated structure with wood floors and is always kept neat and clean. The kitchen has all the best equipment such as gas ranges, convection oven, microwave, refrigerators and freezers.

Lounge Tent
The lounge is a great place to relax after a full day of fishing. This large heated tent is furnished with comfortable chairs and tables. At your disposal are a refrigerator of cold drinks, poker chips with cards, board games, dart board, magazines, books, map board, telephone, satellite television and an online camp computer. They also have a fly-tying bench with a limited supply of fly-tying materials and vises.

Drying Tent
After returning from your day of fishing adventure, this tent serves as a place for you to hang your wet waders, coats, boots and anything else you don't want wet or dirty in your sleeping quarters.

Gazebo/Viewing Deck
This split-level wood structure has a great river view. The bottom area is open-air and enclosed with a fine mesh bug screen. This is a great place to sit and enjoy the midnight sun without being bothered by your little biting buddies. Directly above is the viewing deck. Bring your camera– the sunsets can be breathtaking!
The Staff
Visiting Alaska West means spending a week in your own little village in the middle of the Alaskan bush. The staff that supports the facility is a major reason that many guests choose to return year after year. Besides the best-in-industry guide staff, the team includes mechanics and camp helpers, a gourmet chef and kitchen staff, housekeepers, managers and a dedicated camp host. Although the guests see nothing but smooth operations and great days of fishing, back at camp a crack team is maintaining motors, preparing meals, smoking and freezing salmon, cleaning tent cabins, doing laundry, making repairs, and just generally making sure that all you need to worry about is making the next cast!
