Fishing and Species
Dory trips Most trips start with an early morning launch off the beach. Fly fishing outfits can be supplied as needed. The near shore fishery is 8, 9 and 10 weight rods and lines. Lines range from a floating 8 weight to a sinking shooting head on a 10 weight. For anglers wanting to fly fish for Albacore Tuna there are some windows of time each summer. The planets need to line up with the fish being nearer shore and the sea being relatively calm. The range of time running west and then laterally in search of fish can vary. This is 12 weight action and these fish are bruisers! Winter Steelhead trips With the dynamic water levels on the North Coast rivers, the river to be fished will be decided close to the day(s) of fishing. If you have a river preference it will be accommodated, if that river is fishing well and at a level that is safe to float. Rob has bee fishing these waters for over 30 years, so has a deep knowledge through experience. He is an excellent spey angler and guide.
Oregon Coast

Captain Rob Perkin is a 3rd generation dory fisherman out of Pacific City, Oregon. There is a rich history of launching dories in the surf where the original ones were round and weren't planing hulls. His time on the water exploring this every changing fishery through the season has now become an exciting fly fishing opportunity. There are resident fish like the various species of rockfish along with the season migration of Silver Salmon (Coho). All trips are for the day but can be several days with a range of comfortable to high end accommodations nearby.

You will be fishing out of "Vision", an all wood dory built by Rob and Erin Perkin to the highest standards, licensed and launched in 2021. It is a traditional design with some modern features. The power is a Yamaha 115, new in 2021. The boat is equipped with the latest in electronics for navigation and fish finding. Gear onboard features Sage fly rods, Nautilus Reels and GLoomis rods.

Rob guides winter steelhead on North Oregon coast rivers in December - March. He uses a raft or Ray's River Dory wooden drift boat (that he built) to do day floats. Fishing is by swinging flies with two handed/spey rods. What ever your level of experience or expertise, Rob is a great teacher and insightful guide. He is fishy!
