Fishing and Species
Klamath Lake has 90,000 surface acres, an average depth of 8 feet, an endless supply of aquatic food, thousands upon thousands of native trout (big 5 lb+, bigger 10 lbs, monster 15 lb+) and only two inlet rivers; the Wood and the Williamson. Lonesome Duck fronts over 2.5 miles of prime Williamson fishing water. Fishing is fantastic in the Klamath Basin. A few minutes from Lonesome Duck are the Wood River, Klamath Lake, Agency Lake and the Sprague River. All of these locations offer unique flyfishing opportunities. The headwaters of the Williamson is another option with our friends from Yamsi Ranch. Lonesome Duck provides some of the best opportunities on the river to fish the hexagenia hatch which typically happens in late June and into July. The large mayflies emerge from the silt bottom at sunset each evening and provide an irresistible meal for the big wild trout. At Lonesome Duck you are able to walk out your door and into the excitement of the hex hatch.
Oregon

Lonesome Duck Ranch & Resort is the place to stay for premium trophy trout fly fishing in Southern Oregon. Lonesome Duck is tucked away in southern Oregon, just north of Klamath Falls on one of the finest wild trout river in the US: Oregon’s Williamson River, home to some of the largest wild trout in the country. The resort is nestled among towering ponderosa pines along a private 2.5 mile “fishy” stretch of the river. You’ll share the property with cows, horses, llamas, and a very friendly dog. In addition, there is excellent birdwatching at the Klamath Basin Wildlife Refuges and Crater Lake National Park is nearby.

Lonesome Duck’s owners, Steve and Debbie Hilbert, have two beautiful guest houses spread out over 200 acres. Both houses have fully equipped kitchens in addition to a gas BBQ on the porch. Pots, pans and linens are all included in your house – just bring your favorite ingredients. Rivers Edge is a 1500 sq. ft. hand-hewn log home that sleeps six. It has two bedrooms and a loft, two full bathrooms, living room with a wood stove, dining room, kitchen and a large covered porch.

The other is Arrowhead Cottage, which was the original ranch house and has been totally renovated. It has a massive stone fireplace featuring the ranch brand and other artifacts. This cottage has two bedrooms, one bath, a dining room, living room, screened porch, and fully equipped kitchen. The large covered porch is the ideal place to relax, enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sunset melt into the river.

Guided fishing can be arranged to make the most out of your visit. This is best set up when you make your reservation. The Ranch has boats and canoes that are available for guest use on the property. Right in front of the cottages are some of the best places on the river to fish the Hexagenia hatch, which typically happens in late June and into July. The large mayflies emerge from the silt bottom at sunset each evening and provide an irresistible meal for the big wild trout.

A few minutes from Lonesome Duck are the Wood River, Klamath Lake, Agency Lake and the Sprague River. All of these locations offer unique fly fishing opportunities. Fish move out of the lake and into the river to feed, escape the summer heat and to spawn. They range in size from 12 inches to 15 pounds! There is an option to do a combo trip with the folks at Yamsi Ranch at the headwaters of the Williamson.
