Fishing and Species
The Rio Cisnes valley is a very special place to be and fish. Daily fishing options include wading or floating one of the several sections of the spectacular Rio Cisnes, hidden lagunas, spring creek tributaries, horseback trips to a private lake. You can also take an excursion to the coastal fjords for sea-run trout and salmon. Fishing begins at the doorstep, and travel to all our fishing areas passes through some of the loveliest and most rugged country on earth.
Chile

Established in 1994, La Posada de los Farios is located north of Coyhaique, Chile on a peaceful working cattle ranch overlooking the beautiful and remote Rio Cisnes (Swan River), one the finest trout fishing streams in Patagonia, Chile. The fishing is primarily for wild and aggressive resident Brown Trout, hence the name: Los Farios, "fario" being the Chilean name for Brown Trout. Your hosts are Rex Bryngelson and his wife Maike. Their family and staff are devoted to making your visit to southern Chile the most pleasant and interesting experience possible. Rex has guided fishing and whitewater trips in Chile since 1988 and has been involved in the pioneering of many of Chilean Patagonia's most successful fisheries. He is also an internationally published outdoor photographer and writer.

Their remote location assures that you will not need to get up at the crack of dawn in order to beat other anglers to the best fishing spots. Unlike the increasingly crowded rivers in other areas, the Rio Cisnes valley is an amazingly peaceful place where it is still quite rare to see any other fishermen during a week of fishing. The mountain scenery is spectacular and the fishing options abundant. The lodge itself is the original historic 60-year-old ranch house, modified to comfortably handle a maximum of just 6 guests per week. There is a relaxed atmosphere with a generous dose of hospitality.

During your fishing day an abundant picnic lunch is prepared streamside by your guide. A steaming woodfired hot tub awaits you at the end of each fishing day. A traditional patagonian style barbequed lamb asado prepared over an open fire by local gauchos as a final farewell celebration.

Daily fishing options include wading or floating different sections of the spectacular Rio Cisnes, hidden lagunas, spring creek tributaries and excursions to the coastal fjords for sea-run trout and salmon. You can also take horseback trips to their own private lake or another very productive and gorgeous lake just 20 minutes from the lodge. Fishing begins in the back yard, and travel to all the fishing areas passes through some of the loveliest and most rugged country on earth. Dry flies are used most often but, both nymph and streamer techniques may be employed when conditions dictate. It is not uncommon to see truly large Browns feeding on the surface. All fish are released.
